(by NCSE Deputy Director Glenn Branch)
Dear friends of NCSE, The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists adds its voice for evolution.
ASIH ADDS ITS VOICE FOR EVOLUTION The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, a society dedicated to the scientific study and conservation of fishes, amphibians, and reptiles, added its voice for evolution at its 2008 meeting by passing the following resolution. *** WHEREAS it is necessary for an educated citizen to be scientifically literate, and WHEREAS the theory of evolution is the basis of the biological sciences including medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists supports the teaching of the scientific method and the theory of evolution, and opposes the inclusion of supernatural explanations such as intelligent design creationism and the denigration of evolution as a controversial, weak, or false scientific explanation, in public school biology classes. *** ASIH's statement is now reproduced, by permission, on NCSE's website, and will also be contained in the fourth edition of Voices for Evolution, NCSE's collection of organizational statements supporting the teaching of evolution.
