A new issue of Reports of the NCSE. A graveyard of antiscience bills:
Indiana, Arizona, and Oklahoma. And a failed proposal to amend the
Virginia state constitution in a way that apparently would allow
students to opt out of learning about evolution.

The Friend of Darwin awards for 2013 are announced. Plus a detailed
profile of Zack Kopplin appeared in the Houston Press, NCSE's Project
Steve celebrated its tenth anniversary, and a "strengths and
weaknesses" bill aimed at climate science was introduced in the Kansas
legislature.

A busy week! A bill requiring equal time for "intelligent design" is
filed in Missouri. A Darwin Day resolution is introduced in the United
States Congress. A documentary about the Texas state board of
education comes to PBS. Not one but two antiscience bills in Oklahoma
and one antiscience bill in Colorado are introduced. Plus a
creationist loses his lawsuit against the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
and a reminder about Darwin Day.

Antievolution legislation in Missouri and antievolution content in
Bible classes in Texas. But at least Darwin Day is on its way! Plus
the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology lifts its boycott
on New Orleans, and NCSE's Glenn Branch discusses the state of
evolution education in Kentucky in the pages of the Louisville
Courier-Journal.

the second public draft of the Next Generation Science Standard is now
available for inspection and comment. Plus a preview of the new
edition of How to Build a Habitable Planet, and NCSE's Eugenie C.
Scott argues for the importance of understanding evolution,
adaptation, and phenotype in Frontiers in Evolutionary and Population
Genetics.
