I just scanned the pictures taken yesterday southeast of Wartburg. The first is a cropped 20 mm shot to show the context of the site (Stndrck1.jpg ). A waterfall has developed on the thin, resistant, lower bench of the Wartburg Sandstone where it overlies the Glenmary Shale. The fall has retreated upstream by selectively eroding the much less resistant shale. Subsequently the sandstone is cantilevered until it breaks off and falls. This piece happened to land just right and stands 15 feet (~5m) high (Stndrck2.jpg).
Neat, huh?
